Preview and Predictions LCS EU Week 1

The 2015 European LCS is in full swing with the start of the Spring Split. After a few months of silence, teams have finally come together to face each other once more for 9 straight weeks in the LCS Stage. This time, new teams have emerged from the shadows thanks to the Expansion Tournament. There are also a few teams that have rebranded themselves but the question now is, with some of the older teams gone, will a new team dominate Europe and get the chance to represent the region in this year’s World Championship? Find out which teams will come swinging right out of the gate and which ones are bound to make their mark in the EU LCS Stage this split.

Pre-match analysis LCS EU Spring Split 2015 | Week 1 – Day 1

Match #1: ELEMENTS vs. FNATIC

(Jan 22nd, 9:00 AM PST/ 12:00 PM EST/ 6:00 PM CET)

Many were surprised when former Fnatic members xPeke, SoAz, and Cyanide left the team when Rekkles decided to leave the team for Alliance. When Rekkles joined Alliance, Fnatic felt like they lost a family member. There were rumors that the rest of the team were dissatisfied with how they were treated by the organization and now, xPeke, SoAz, and Cyanide have left the team to make their own organization and is now known as Origen. Meanwhile, Yellowstar continues to pursue his career under Fnatic and this time, he is now the captain of the team. When the spots were left vacated, players from all over the world started to audition and it was Huni and Reignover from Korea that won the top laner and jungler spot while Febiven and Steelback took the mid laner and AD carry spot. These are relatively unknown players and it will surely be a difficult time for the new Fnatic to play against teams who have already established their team way ahead of time.

Elements, on the other hand, have been playing for a long time. The team hailed from the former Alliance organization and have rebranded themselves as Elements. Rekkles now joines the team as their starting AD carry. Rekkles found himself instantly comfortable with Nyph as his support. Since their recent outing in tournaments in December, Elements is still the top team to beat in this split. It will be grueling task for the new Fnatic when they meet up with Elements in the first ever match of the season.

Prediction: Experience is the key to winning the game and it will be an advantageous spot for Elements in this match.

Match #2: GIANTS GAMING vs. MEET YOUR MAKERS

(Jan 22nd, 10:00 AM PST/ 1:00 PM EST/ 7:00 PM CET)

Another team that has rebranded themselves was Supa Hot Crew. In early Deccember of last year, Meet Your Makers acquired the roster of Supa Hot Crew after Impaler decided to leave the team. Now, they joined by Horo and Nisbeth as their starting jungler and support. With that in mind, MYM can rest assured that they are still in top shape when the split begins. There is not much news about the new MYM team since they have been hibernating these past few weeks. It will be interesting to watch them as they fend off the Giants from winning this match.

Prediction: Giants will meet their Makers in this match.

Match #3: COPENHAGEN WOLVES vs. H2K

(Jan 22nd, 11:00 AM PST/ 2:00 PM EST/ 8:00 PM CET)

This will be the second time that Copenhagen Wolves and H2K Gaming will meet in the LCS Stage even if it is still the first day of the split. This is because both teams have fought with each other in the LCS EU Promotion Tournament a few months ago and as it turned out, Copenhagen Wolves defended their spot in the LCS but now that H2k have also joined the ranks in the LCS, this will be a grudge match for H2k and Copenhagen Wolves. If the trend continues, the Wolves will still be able to claim victory over H2k but months have passed since their last match and the new items as well as the jungle will force the Wolves to try out a new strategy hence this should be where H2k needs to take advantage of.

Prediction: However, the Wolves have beaten them to a pulp before and will most likely beat them again in this round.

Match #4: SK GAMING vs. ROCCAT

(Jan 22nd, 12:00 PM PST/ 3:00 PM EST/ 9:00 PM CET)

Both teams have been at each other’s throats since last season and now is the time to rekindle the rivalry between them. If we base the stats on last year, it would seem that Roccat and SK Gaming would be at each other’s throats at this time but with a new patch, new items, new jungle, and a lot of different champions in the meta today, it will be difficult to predict which one will come out on top. SK Gaming loves to be in the late game while Roccat dominates the mid game. If it does happen, Roccat will surely rise above SK Gaming.

Prediction: Roccat have a new AD Carry in Woolite which will help tip the balance toward their favor.

Match #5: GAMBIT GAMING vs. UNICORNS OF LOVE

(Jan 22nd, 1:00 AM PST/ 4:00 PM EST/ 10:00 PM CET)

Both teams have shown their cards when they joined the IEM tournaments at IEM Cologne(Gambit Gaming) and IEM San Jose (Unicorns of Love) and last month and both teams have been successful at making their mark. These two teams are certainly crowd favorites with UoL picking a Twisted Fate jungle and destroyed TSM in the process while Gambit’s P1noy making a valiant effort in carrying the team with his Graves. The last match of the day will surely prove to be a clash of innovation as both teams love to blindside their opponents with picks that are out of this world. Watch our for both Gambit and Unicorns of Love outpick each other and try their best to invent a new meta.

Prediction: Can go both ways for this matchup.

Pre-match analysis LCS EU Spring Split 2015 | Week 1 – Day 2

Match #1: MEET YOUR MAKERS vs. SK GAMING

(Jan 23rd, 9:00 AM PST/ 12:00 PM EST/ 6:00 PM CET)

It would seem that SK is the team with the upper hand in this match but Meet Your Makers’ new roster is definitely one of the teams that has the potential to get to the top just as did when they when they were called Supa Hot Crew. With the MYM organization giving them what they need, MYM will surely reach their potential this split if not next split and make their way to Worlds this season. However, for this match, SK Gaming try to put a dent on that plan.

Prediction: MYM wins this match.

Match #2: GIANTS GAMING vs. COPENHAGEN WOLVES

(Jan 23rd, 10:00 AM PST/ 1:00 PM EST/ 7:00 PM CET)

Prediction: Copenhagen Wolves take another win this week.

Match #3: ROCCAT vs. GAMBIT GAMING

(Jan 23rd, 11:00 AM PST/ 2:00 PM EST/ 8:00 PM CET)

Although both teams have met each other in the old Rift before, this time Gambit Gaming has had a renewed sense of self when P1noy joined their team. They already have the great momentum since their outing in IEM and will most likely ride it through the entire split. The only problem with Gambit is that they rely heavily on P1noy to farm up and support him in getting kills. The CLG’s Protect The Carry strategy has its own ups and downs but if the carry is shut down the team will have a hard time winning the match. Fortunately, they are up against a team that does not have too much aggression in the laning phase not unless Roccat has changed their strategy this time around. If they do, Gambit is in a bad position and it all boils down to Diamondprox once more. Diamond needs to be present in the bottom lane most of the time to feed P1noy the gold he needs. With the experience from Diamondprox and Edward, Gambit Gaming has what it takes to make another win in this week.

Prediction: The Protect The Carry strategy might do well in the early weeks but teams will be able to use it against them in the long run.

Match #4: FNATIC vs. H2K

(Jan 23rd, 12:00 PM PST/ 3:00 PM EST/ 9:00 PM CET)

Prediction: Depends on what happens in the first day.

Match #5: UNICORNS OF LOVE vs. ELEMENTS(Jan 23rd, 1:00 PM PST/ 4:00 PM EST/ 10:00 PM CET)

The week ends with an explosive match between Elements and Unicorns of Love. UoL loves to bring new things to the table while Elements like to stick to what works and barely moves around to shake things up. It will comes as a surprise that the heavy favorites here will be Unicorns of Love as to how they will be reacting to whatever Elements throw at them. They have done it before against TSM, and destroyed the North American team, and now they can do it against Elements.

Prediction: Even though it’s risky I favoure Unicorns of Love in this match.
