After the European teams opend the LCS Spring Split on their side of the globe, it is time for the
Pre-match analysis LCS NA Spring Split 2015 | Week 1 – Day 1
Match #1: TEAM SOLOMID vs. CLOUD9
(Jan 24th, 12:00 PM PST/ 3:00 PM EST/ 9:00 PM CET)
The season starts out once more with old rivals TSM and Cloud 9. Last year, Cloud 9 surprised TSM with a Teemo pick in the mid lane and destroyed TSM in that match. However, by the end of the season, TSM grabbed the top spot and made their way to the Quartefinals of the 2014 LoL World Championship. This time, Cloud 9 would really want to make a splash once more as they try to pick unconventional champions once more. TSM’s weakness has always been the pick and ban phase and it was truly evident during their match against Unicorns of Love when the European team picked a jungle Twisted Fate and got wrecked by it. What TSM needs to do is to not show their hands early during pick and ban phase and hope for the best. They need to hide their strategy as long as possible before revealing to their opponents or else the opponents get the change to counterpick their team composition.
Prediction: In this game, Cloud 9 is more likely to win due to the fact that Santorin is still
new to the team and has a few more kinks to work on.
Match #2: TEAM COAST vs. TEAM DIGNITAS
(Jan 24th, 1:00 PM PST/ 4:00 PM EST/ 10:00 PM CET)
Shiphtur will face his former team in this match however, Dignitas will face a tougher team this time around. Coast is a well oiled machine and the members of the team has had experience playing in the LCS stage. Dignitas has two new members that need to communicate well in order for them to synergize well. This could pose a problem early on and will most likely plague them all throughout the split. If Dignitas can find a way to communicate well with their Korean members then they will become one of the team to watch out for this split. Things might be bumpy for Dignitas in this match so expect Coast to get the win.
Prediction: Coast wins.
Match #3: WINTERFOX vs. GRAVITY
(Jan 24th, 2:00 PM PST/ 5:00 PM EST/ 11:00 PM CET)
The “Asian” team of the NA LCS – Winterfox could finally soar to the top with this lineup. Almost all know and understand Korean hence they have the communication locked down. But the problem now is how well they jive together as a team, especially as Avalon and Helios are missing the first Week 1 of the NA LCS Spring Split 2015. Another thing is that Pobelter needs to step up his game or he will be swallowed by the likes of Hai and even Bjergsen in the midlane. Altec and Imagine might also need fine tuning with their bot lane synergy as Altec have been comfortable with Krepo’s gameplay. On the other hand Gravity (formerly known as Curse Academy just recently qualified for the LCS and might have problems making a big impact.
Substitutes: Team Winterfox: Flaresz for Avalon (Top Lane) | ShorterACE for Helios | (Jungle)
Prediction: Winterfox has greater chances of winning this if they are able to communicate their strategy with the new substitutes well.
Match #4: TEAM IMPULSE vs. TEAM LIQUID
(Jan 24th, 3:00 PM PST/ 6:00 PM EST/ 12:00 AM CET)
Impact and Piglet would have finally get to meet again in the Rift albeit, this time as opponents, if both players where not subsitetuted this week. The former SK T1 K members have transferred to North America during the offseason but Piglet and Xpecial have done more time together in the past than Impact and his team. But unfortunatly this “renunion” will take place in the second part of the Spring Split. With Rush as jungler and XiaoWeiXiao in the midlane, Impulse might have the best lineup in Week 1’s matchup but never count Team Liquid (formerly kown as Team Curse) out as Xpecial might have a game changing impact.
Substitutes: Team Impulse: Rhux for Impact (Top Lane) | Team Liquid: KEITHMCBRIEF for Piglet (ADC)
Prediction: Both teams run the risk of communication problems but Liquid has far better synergy this time than Impulse.
Match #5: COUNTER LOGIC GAMING vs. TEAM 8
(Jan 24th, 12:00 PM PST/ 7:00 PM EST/ 1:00 AM CET)
CLG has better chances of winning the split this time with this roster than ever before. Doublelift and Aphromoo’s bot lane duo will finally have a jungler who knows how to snowball the other lane so that the focus will be away from them. But without Zionspartan, who can hold his own lane even against two enemies, it is up to Xmithie to finally lift Link from the midlane. With that, CLG has a more solid lineup this time around. Now, they will need to test it out against Team8 who have been building their own reputation since they landed a spot in the LCS. It will be a daunting task for them especially now that they are playing against the big leagues but with Alex Ich in tow, they are in good hands at least at the top lane where Alex is bound to play. However, the question now is, will Alex be able to jive well with his new team or will he be questioning his move to North America? Here’s hoping Gambit Gaming reels him back in Europe.
Missing: CLG ZionSpartan (Top Lane) (most likely replaced by Benny)
Prediction: CLG needs to prove that they are a force to be reckoned with and this might be their first step to blast the gate wide open. Match might end either way.
